Almost a week ago I announced that I would be doing a little experiment with shampoo in attempting to help out our ecosystem. I had read that water works great as a replacement for shampoo… Let’s just say, NOT TRUE. It did not work at all. My hair was neither healthy, or clean. Haha! I am assuming that this regimine would work better if one were to do it for a long period of time.. I, however, have no desire to stick it out through the “greasy hair stage”. Not happening!

I am now a total believer in “no-poo”. Honestly though, I would really think that “no-poo” works best for those with naturally dry hair that is neither stick-straight nor on the very fine side, but that’s just my opinion. You really have to stick it out and also become comfortable with what the body has always done naturally.
Here’s a tip on what you should NEVER do:
It completely freaks me out whenever I hear about other followers of this movement being told to use either baking soda and/or apple cider or white vinegar as substitutes. Why? I am a professional private housekeeper and I combine both of these things and use it as a very effective “green” cleaning alternative to remove lime, calcium, and even rust. These natural chemicals are extremely corrosive either mixed together or even when used separately! I sure as hell hope no one out there combines these together – try spraying vinegar on baking soda and just see what happens!
My best suggestion for “no-poo”:
Buy both a natural bristle hair brush and a very fine-toothed comb. Also purchase a jug of distilled water and put this into a spray bottle. Once or twice everyday, spray-soak the distilled water onto your hair and do the old-fashioned ’100 strokes’ gently with the brush. Pull-down and spread out any areas of oily build-up. As it dries, carefully run the fine-toothed comb throughout your hair to evenly disperse even more of these natural beautifying oils. Using distilled water is better than tap water if your water is either very hard or treated heavily with chlorine.
If odors are an issue for you, mix-up a natural perfume from flower essences to spray onto your hair.
The whole key to this thing is making gentle brushing a new habit. The water helps get the oils moved down and around the hair shaft evenly more quickly, and keeps it from allowing airborne dirt from building up.
Really, it is the best thing I have ever done. My hair has never looked or felt so wonderful!
